THE PERSON BEHIND THE NUMBERS

Meet JuanMa

I am a lifelong sports fan, a graduate of Florida International University’s Master of Science in Recreation and Sport Management program, and the creator of Facts Over Feelings.

Sports have always been part of my life

Throughout school, I played basketball, soccer, volleyball, and baseball. I did not just enjoy watching competition; I loved participating in it and thinking about what makes a team work.

I chose sport management because I wanted to turn that lifelong connection into a career in the sports industry. Through mentorship and guidance, I discovered the field and fell in love with the number of decisions required to run a sports organization. My education gave me a broader view of the industry, including sponsorships, media rights, arena operations, concessions, parking, merchandise, and the business decisions that help teams operate year after year.

My ultimate professional goal is to become the general manager of an NBA team. The front-office side of basketball—scouting, drafting, contracts, asset management, player development, timing, and roster construction—is where my interests meet.

Why I created Facts Over Feelings

The idea began with the basketball debates I had almost every day during high-school lunch. Comparing two players usually meant jumping between several websites to find career statistics, peak seasons, playoff numbers, awards, and championships. Even after finding the information, fans often presented a feeling as if it settled the argument.

I wanted one place where people could test their factual NBA knowledge through daily games and build better debates with transparent comparison tools. Facts Over Feelings is not designed to remove opinions from basketball. It is designed to make those opinions do more work.

What “Facts Over Feelings” means to me

Facts should improve an argument and expose weak reasoning. They should challenge recency bias, give younger fans access to historical context, and move the conversation beyond shortcuts such as “Jordan has more rings, so the debate is over.”

A statistic does not speak for itself. Points per game can miss efficiency, defense, role, and availability. A championship is a team accomplishment that different players helped earn through very different responsibilities. A career average can understate a player who developed later. Context does not replace facts; it helps us use the correct facts for the question.

Why there are two comparison tools

When comparing the better overall player, I value long-term consistency and the complete body of work. When comparing the greatest individual season, peak dominance matters more. Those are different arguments, which is why the website separates All-Time / Career from Peak Season instead of forcing both questions into one ranking.

The verdicts are transparent editorial models, not claims of universal truth. Visitors can inspect the categories and change certain weights. Disagreement is welcome—the goal is to make the disagreement more specific and better supported.

The games

Daily Mystery reveals factual clues after incorrect guesses. Fantasy 5 challenges players to identify the best positional seasons under the original Facts Over Feelings scoring formula. GM Desk asks users to build a productive five under the salary cap. Stat Bingo tests whether a drawn player truly qualifies for a statistical square. Risk Chain turns career comparisons into a decision about knowledge, confidence, and when to bank a score.

After ten minutes here, I want a visitor to have learned something factual about an NBA player, tested what they thought they knew, and found a new reason to start a basketball conversation.

My approach: passionate fan, thoughtful analyst. I will have a position, show the evidence behind it, and be clear about what the numbers cannot prove.

Original writing and transparent methodology

The Insights & Guides contain my original opinions, basketball explanations, front-office analysis, and game strategy. The methodology publishes the formulas, weights, definitions, limitations, and data sources behind the tools.

Data, corrections, and independence

Fantasy 5 and GM Desk use commercially permitted BALLDONTLIE data transformed into original scores, rankings, and daily puzzles. Comparison statistics use the same provider plus a documented CC0/Public Domain fallback for limited catalog gaps. Championships and awards are independently checked against published historical records. Active-player totals can change. If a number looks wrong, use the contact form or email [email protected].

Facts Over Feelings is an independent project. It is not affiliated with, sponsored by, or endorsed by the NBA, its teams, Florida International University, BALLDONTLIE, or Google. References to JuanMa’s FIU degree identify an educational credential and do not imply university endorsement.

The site may show clearly labeled third-party advertising after approval. Advertising does not influence the statistics, formulas, editorial opinions, game results, or leaderboard rules.
